Japanese Bento Box Lunch Ideas

Japanese Bento Box Lunch Ideas

If you're anything like me I love to travel and enjoy sampling the traditional and exotic cuisine each country has to offer. However, my favorite travel destination has to be Japan, not only from the bustling cities to the stunning countryside but Japan has some of the most flavorful, healthy and delicious food.

Lately I've been trying to re-create Japanese food at home so I can pack them away for myself and for my little ones. There are some family favorites that are super easy to make and great to pack in bento lunch boxes. Here are my top 3 Japanese foods that I've learnt how to master and that I find easy to pack away and the kids love:

1. Sushi
2. Yakitori
3. Tempura

Sushi is probably the best recipes to make in advance and pack away, here is my super easy sushi recipe to pack in the bento lunch box.

2. In a small bowl, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, and stir until the sugar has dissolved.

4. To make the nigiri sushi, take a small handful of rice and shape it into an oval. 5. Place a piece of fish or seafood on top of the rice, and then wrap it with a strip of nori.

6. Repeat until all of the sushi has been made.

7. Serve immediately with soy sauce and pickled ginger (if desired). This easy nigiri sushi recipe is a great way to enjoy sushi at home. The sushi rice is flavorful and sticky, and the fish or seafood is fresh and delicious.

Yakitori Recipe - Quick and Easy

Yakitori is a Japanese dish that consists of grilled chicken skewers. There are many different ways to make yakitori, but the most common is to marinate the chicken in a yakitori sauce before grilling.

Yakitori sauce is made with soy sauce, mirin, and sake, and it gives the chicken a delicious sweet and savory flavor. If you're looking for a easy yakitori recipe to try at home, this is a great place to start.

-1 pound chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
-1/2 cup yakitori sauce -1/4 cup mirin
-1/4 cup sake
-1 tablespoon soy sauce

1. In a large bowl, whisk together the yakitori sauce, mirin, sake, and soy sauce. 2. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and coat them evenly with the marinade. 3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours.
4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
5. Thread the chicken onto skewers, and then grill for 5-7 minutes per side, or until the chicken is cooked through.
6. Serve immediately with soy sauce and pickled ginger or pack it away once it's cooled down and use your bento lunch box to keep your rice and chicken portions in check!

This easy yakitori recipe is a great way to enjoy grilled chicken at home. The chicken is flavorful and juicy, and the yakitori sauce gives it a delicious sweet and savory flavor. If you're looking for a more challenging yakitori recipe, try making yakitori with different cuts of chicken, such as chicken breast or chicken thighs. You can also try adding other vegetables to the skewers, such as peppers or mushrooms.
